QuietLook Privacy Policy ======================== Last updated: September 27, 2026 1. Scope -------- QuietLook is Mantiqo's native macOS helper for remembering the mute and volume you choose in Finder's Quick Look video previews. This notice covers the helper, not every Mantiqo product. QuietLook has no account, advertising, analytics, cloud synchronization, developer-operated backend, or network transport. It never reads, records, saves, or transmits audio. It does not modify your media files. 2. Local preferences -------------------- The helper saves a schema version, your chosen volume, and your last audible volume in ~/Library/Application Support/QuietLook/audio.json. Muting retains the last audible setting so unmuting can restore it. This file is local to your Mac and is created with user-only file permissions. It is not an application-level encrypted vault. Other software running as your user, an administrator, or a backup service may be able to access it. The app includes a bundled per-user launch-agent definition. When you choose Enable Audio Memory, macOS manages the helper's registration and startup for your user. A graphical installation does not create a shell command. Developer/source installations can additionally retain a command wrapper and a public signing-certificate selector for updates. That selector is not a private signing key or service credential. 3. Accessibility and audio controls ---------------------------------- QuietLook needs app-specific Accessibility permission to discover Finder's native preview controls, restore your saved choice, and observe changes you make with the speaker button or volume slider. The helper uses local process identifiers, Accessibility element identities, preview duration, and preview title/document metadata to distinguish a new preview from the one already open. Titles and document names stay in memory; they are not written to the saved audio preference or transmitted. While your saved choice is muted, private Core Audio taps and inactive tap-only aggregate attachments guard Apple's Quick Look service. The helper does not start audio I/O, read audio samples, capture a microphone, or install an audio driver. Its local status interface contains health and audio-choice information, not filenames or recorded audio, and has no network listener. The guard targets the Quick Look service rather than a file format. Audio-only previews and other applications using that same Apple service can also be silent while your saved choice is muted. Native control observation is limited to Finder. Separate music players, browser players and system sounds are not targeted. 4. Your controls and retention ----------------------------- You grant or revoke Accessibility permission through System Settings. QuietLook cannot grant itself that permission and does not edit the macOS permission database. Missing permission stops healthy operation and releases the mute guard rather than leaving an uncontrollable forced mute. Disabling audio memory in the setup window stops remembering, unregisters login startup, and releases the guard. It does not force an already-muted native preview to unmute. The app's Uninstall action unregisters the helper, removes known legacy command files, and moves the app to Trash. It deliberately retains audio.json so your preference can be reused. After uninstalling, you may delete that specific preference file if you no longer want to retain it. Existing backups and macOS permission records are managed separately. macOS can retain local operational diagnostics under its own log-retention policy. QuietLook does not upload those logs automatically. Review any diagnostic information before choosing to share it with support. 5. Website and support ---------------------- Reading this notice on mantiqo.com makes an ordinary request to our Vercel-hosted website. The hosting provider may process request metadata, including IP addresses and user-agent information, for delivery, security and operations. This plain-text notice contains no tracking script. If you email hello@mantiqo.com, we receive your email address and the information you choose to send. Do not include private media, credentials or unrelated logs. Mantiqo cannot remotely inspect or erase preferences held only on your Mac or in your backups. Purchase processing, if offered, is separate from the helper's local runtime. The website's privacy and purchase terms explain the payment provider and customer-record handling; QuietLook does not transmit your preview activity to that provider. 6.
