News. Privacy Policy ==================== Last updated: September 27, 2026 1. Scope -------- News. is Mantiqo's free, local-first feed reader for Chrome and Microsoft Edge. This notice covers the extension, not every Mantiqo product. There is no News account, hosted reading API, advertising service or developer analytics. Reading data is not uploaded to a Mantiqo collection or synchronization service, sold, or used by Mantiqo for advertising. Fetching content from the sites you authorize is separate from storing your reading library locally. 2. Data stored in your browser ----------------------------- News. stores its application data in IndexedDB in the current browser profile. Depending on the features you use, this includes: - Feed and watched-page addresses, source names, folders and preferences. - Feed articles, publisher snapshots, article metadata and reading state. - Saved views, filters, rules, local tags, notes and highlights. - Explicit relevance feedback, alerts, request status and refresh history. - Watched-page baselines and a bounded history of changed text snapshots. This is local browser storage, not News cloud sync or an application-level encrypted vault. Another person or program with sufficient access to your browser profile or exported files may be able to read those data. Protect your device, browser profile and backups accordingly. 3. Website access and requests ----------------------------- News. starts without installation-time website access. It asks for optional access when you add or use a source that needs it. Exact site grants are the default. The optional all-websites article-retrieval mode requires an explicit additional confirmation and broad HTTP/HTTPS access. Feed refreshes, publisher-article retrieval and web watches contact the sites you authorize. Background content requests omit browser cookies and credentials. Receiving sites still see ordinary request information, such as the requested address, network address and request headers, and may process that information under their own policies. Current-page feed discovery inspects advertised feed links when you invoke that action. Publisher retrieval and web watches extract text from fetched static content; they do not run that page's scripts or load its subresources. Automatic retrieval does not silently grant permission or open a permission prompt. You can review or revoke grants in the browser's extension settings. Remote article images, audio and video are not loaded automatically. When you choose to load media or open a publisher's website, the destination receives the corresponding browser request and its own policies apply. Optional source icons use the browser's favicon facility rather than an external icon service operated by News. 4. Local organization and alerts ------------------------------- Rules, duplicate-story grouping and relevance calculations run locally. Relevance uses your explicit feedback, not an uploaded reading profile. Optional native notifications require permission and can display article information on your device. Consider your operating system's notification and lock-screen settings when reading sensitive sources. 5. Retention, deletion and exports --------------------------------- You can remove sources and articles, delete publisher snapshots and annotations, adjust retention, and use the guarded local-data reset. Retention cleanup preserves starred, annotated, highlighted and explicitly rated articles. Watch history is bounded rather than an unlimited archive. OPML exports, JSON backups and Markdown exports are files you control. They can contain private source addresses, reading data, notes or other sensitive information. Share and store them accordingly. Restore imports data into the current browser profile; it does not create a cloud account. Removing or resetting local News data does not erase exported files or data already held by the sites you contacted. Manage those separately. Mantiqo cannot remotely inspect, restore or erase a library held only in your browser or backups. 6. Browser services, this notice and support ------------------------------------------ Browser and extension-store services may process installation, update and other browser-service information under their own policies. They are separate from a News account or reading-data collection service. Reading this notice at mantiqo.com makes an ordinary web request to our Vercel-hosted website. The hosting provider may process request metadata, including IP addresses and user-agent information, for delivery, security and operations. This plain-text notice contains no tracking script. If you email hello@mantiqo.com, we receive your email address and the message you choose to send so we can respond. Please do not send passwords, private feed credentials, complete backups or unnecessary personal content. 7. Changes ---------- We update this notice when relevant product behavior changes and revise the date above. Review updated notices and release information before enabling new features or granting additional permissions.
